Summer Preparations

Summer preparations: the time that every teacher dreads because it means taking care of a ton of stuff. Today is the last day of school. So weird! We managed to never close for an outbreak this year; however, it’s been so different. 5th grade moved to the middle school. I’m so glad I don’t normally teach middle school! It’s definitely something I could ever do.

My middle school classroom is cleaned out and almost empty. I have just a few big things left. I don’t have to do my elementary classroom because other teachers and staff were using it.

I’ve done a cleaning my classroom vlog before, but this year is so different! I actually filmed that during quarantine. While yes, I moved a lot of stuff, I actually moved more than normal.

I had to go through all their stuff and my stuff. Normally, I have my kids do a lot of the work. However, they also help me set up a lot of the stuff, too. I will say, I’m a pretty “no frills” teacher. I don’t do a ton of decorations on purpose. Tons of stuff can overwhelm them (like super rainbow rooms), so I try and keep a very strict color palette (mostly blues and white). My room is nautical-themed, so I have a few splashes of red. However, it’s not overpowering and is mostly calming.

Summer preparations vary based on different factors: moving rooms, grades, schools, etc. For me, I’m just moving back to the elementary classroom. Luckily, I didn’t have to take a lot of stuff over to the middle school. However, it’s still been time-consuming. This is one year where I actually did a lot of “one and done” type stuff. I planned on throwing it away instead of moving it back to the elementary school.

What’s Next

This summer I plan on finishing up grad school! I have two classes. One that is a practicum style class where I will be teaching 2 different students three times throughout the week. The other is a more traditional class; however, I’m not sure what it all entails just yet.

I’m also going on a beach vacation with a friend’s family at the end of June. I honestly don’t remember the last time I did a vacation to the beach besides Hilton Head when I was in high school. There is definitely some swimsuit shopping in my future: it looks like I only have two “ocean-appropriate” swimsuits.

I also plan on blogging two times a week. I have a few posts planned out, but I am always taking requests!

xx,

Lindsey
