Hair Care Products

What to look for in a hair care product? Well, honestly, I have no idea. I keep seeing different things on social media, and every time I go to a hairstylist they recommend a different product. Typically, I find myself looking for a new hair product every 4 months. I definitely want to try to be as healthy as possible when picking new items.

hair care products and what you need to know

I started here with health.com, but they have a ton of products on there that people on social media said never to use.

Allure seemed to have some better options listed for their 44 best hair products of 2021, but some still seemed questionable.

I love trying to find the best products to use, but it seems that everyone is in disagreement on what is actually a good hair care product.

There seem to be the following lists of what ingredients to “avoid” and what you should “look for”.

Hair Care Ingredients to Avoid

  • sulfates
  • formaldehyde
  • parabens
  • hexachlorophene
  • pthalates

Hair Care Ingrediates to Look For

  • sarcosines
  • sulfosuccinates anionic detergents
  • betaines
  • sultaines
  • imidazolinium derivatives

I went through a couple of different shampoos that I’ve been considering and the one thing I realized is that it’s really hard to read these ingredient lists. I don’t know what all of the scientific names are for things.

Keep your Eye on

One thing to keep in mind is you need to check the ingredients regardless of brand. Some products are fine from one brand, but then other products might not be.

After all this research, I decided I’m going to try the acidic bonding shampoo and conditioner from Redken. It seems to have really good reviews everywhere.

My final conclusion that is you can’t really do anything wrong when picking a shampoo and conditioner. At the end of the day, it seems every product or every line has something that may potentially be bad for you. Additionally, one of my biggest tips is to change up your shampoo and conditioner. I don’t use the same one over and over again, and I typically keep a rotation of them going (like I’ll use one the first wash one of the week and a different one when I wash the next time).

What’s your favorite shampoo and conditioner?

xx,

Lindsey
