Mascaras for Sensitive Eyes

The challenge: find mascara for sensitive eyes. Mascaras are tough-especially if you’re like me and you have sensitive eyes. I have severe chronic dry eye, to the point where my eyes do not really have any natural liquid on them.

Finding eye makeup that does not irritate my eyes is almost impossible. I can definitely use mac paintpots, but past that it’s been super difficult. I wanted to only try drugstore mascaras for the affordability aspect of it. With mascaras being a more daily use product, regardless of how much makeup someone is wearing, I wanted to make sure it was accessible to everyone.

I did a search a few weeks ago for the best mascaras for sensitive eyes. I found two different lists that were almost identical, so I tried 3 of the ones listed on both. For each mascara, I did two coats (a rarity for me!)-I normally stick to one.

The Mascaras

  1. Covergirl Lashblast | $5.99 | This is a tried and true favorite of mine. I used it in high school and in college but stopped using it (along with almost all other makeup) a while ago after a massive allergic reaction to something. I was excited to see it was on the list! This one was a must-try for me. This one is definitely the top one for me of the 3 that I tried. I did not rub at my eyes at all! Rubbing my eyes is the tell-tale “my eyes are irritated” sign. Hands down this one is my favorite and the one I will be repurchasing.
  2. Neutrogena Healthy Lengths | $7.49 | Neutrogena is known for being hypo-allergenic. However, this one was the second favorite for me. It definitely wasn’t the worst, but I did rub at my eyes. This one I put on later in the day (around noon). I was disappointed by this. This one does not add volume, but definitely lengthen my eyelashes.
  3. Neutrogena Healthy Volume | $7.47 | This one is probably the bottom one for me. I know I rubbed my eyes a lot while wearing this one. It looks great on and I was very pleased with the effect. However, it definitely did not work for me.

This one was not on the list, but L’Oreal Paris Lightweight Mega Volume Mascara is definitely not the worst mascara, but not the best either. It definitely adds volume and looks fantastic. It’s more expensive at almost $10, too. I tried it before trying these three with the purpose of trying ones that were supposed to be great for sensitive eyes.

What mascaras are your favorite?

xx,

Lindsey
